Each month we feature one of our amazing clients on our blog. This month we’re proud to showcase Hasara Lay from Catexplorer
Tell us a bit about your business:
Catexplorer is a community, movement and brand for people who explore the world with their cats.
Yes, you read that right! Catexplorer is for people who go hiking or to bookstores or to brunch or go to so many more places with their cats.
Our community is full of people who aim to give their cat the world.
Tell us a bit about yourself:
I’m the founder of Catexplorer and also mum to two cats, Lumos & Noxie.
I am an extreme introvert, so creating and running Catexplorer has been outside my comfort zone. This especially occurs when we are conducting interviews for the Catexplorer Podcast!
What motivated you to start your own business?
While training Lumos & Noxie to explore with us, I grew frustrated with the lack of resources and locations to share experiences with other cat owners. So I created it myself.
Catexplorer began as a repository of information, then developed into a hub for our community to share information and has now evolved into a business.
What I love the most is that Catexplorer has now helped provide a sense of belonging to many people around the world who explore with their cats.
What has your business achieved that you’re proud of?
I only seriously started working on Catexplorer in August/September last year and I am proud of how far it has come.
In that time, we have rebranded, opened an online store, created and successfully launched the Catexplorer Podcast and grown from 0 followers on social media to more than 5.3K across our platforms.
What are some of the major challenges you’ve faced in your business and how have you overcome them?
As a solo entrepreneur it is tempting to try and do everything myself, especially if it means that I might save some money.
However, I have learnt that it is best to leave some things up to the experts. I am now becoming better at reaching out to experts when I need them, especially for things that I don’t know much about.
The legalities is a perfect example, Courtney and Jennifer from Her Lawyer have been awesome with helping us!
Any advice for budding entrepreneurs?
Honestly, just start and try it out. You won’t know what will happen till you do.
I procrastinated with creating the Catexplorer Podcast for a very long time. However, it has helped our community feel much more connected to us, and has helped created so much more brand loyalty and recognition. I knew this may occur, but I kept putting it off as I’m an introvert and didn’t want to talk to or interview people!
